Line Dance Anyone?

Starting this Friday I will start teaching a line dance class at Texas Family Fitness in Frisco from 6 - 7:30 and on the 1st, 3rd and 4th Sundays from 2 - 3:30.  Come join me for what is sure to be tons of fun.

Chicken and Mozzerella Ravioli with Alfredo Sauce

Seth requested this entree for his birthday dinner the other night.  It is fattening due to the sauce, but oh so good....

Chicken and mozzerella ravioli (found in the refridgerated section at Costco) topped with homemade alfredo sauce.  For this dish I was a some of this, some of that, eyeballing it kind of cook since I have made this sauce countless times.  The sauce consists of real butter, fresh garlic, heavy cream, grated parmigiano reggiano cheese, a little salt, a little fresh ground pepper and a dash of nutmeg.  All topped with more grated parmigiano reggiano and crushed red pepper flakes.

YUM!!!!

I See Art

As long as I can remember I could see the beauty in some of the oddest things.  Enjoy.

This is a photo of my studio/living room/showroom.  Most of the items in this room were either thrifted or given to me with the exception of the art.  All of the paintings on the walls and on the easel were created by me.

One of my prized possessions is my 1948 pink General Electric stove.  I only paid $100 for it 11 years ago.  The heating element in the oven blew 5 years ago so it now houses art supplies and  a small color tv inside the oven.  What a beauty!

My art table was given to me by my good friend Rhea.  Thanks girl!!

My vintage Neiman Marcus rhinestone stilettos that I purchased  5 years ago that are now all of the sudden very, very snug.  Darn it!  They now adorn a vintage French bottle drying rack a top an armoire in my studio.

This is a photo of my dining room/sitting room.  Again, a majority of the items in this room were either thrifted, free or found in an antique store with the exception of the art on the walls which were created by me, my kids or one of my many art friends.  The artwork above the stools was created by my mentor Frank Frazier.

This is my fireplace screen that I bartered for.  It was perfect for the fireplace at my house in Oak Cliff, not so much for the fireplace for this house in Frisco, so now it is showcased as a sculpture a top an art deco buffet.

This is my wall of black and white and sepia tone familly photos.  The photos encase my grandmother's upright buffet.  I call it the "little buffet".  On the buffet are my grandmother's bar set and colorful metal pot lids I found at The White Elephant (one of my favorite antique stores).

This is my gorgeous orange sink that I found at my friend Greg's shop Patina Bleu.  I intended to put this sink in my Oak Cliff house bathroom.  Maybe someday.  For now, it's a cool sculpture / cat condo for Coco Trixiebelle!

These windows come with a story.  I was on my way to church on a Sunday morning which happened to be the day before bulk trash pickup and I spied 4 perfect old windows and some other random treasures among my neithbor's trash.  I backed down the street got out of the car and proceeded to dig through my neighbor's trash in 5" stilettos none the less.  Mike and John came out of their house, promptly laughed at me and watched as I struggled to drag one the windows across the street and place it on my front porch.  Once they saw that I meant business,  they offered to bring all of the items that I "shopped for" over to my front porch before I made it back home from church.

Since Earth Day was fast approaching and  a recycled art contest at my kids' school was coming up, I saw an opportunity for my kids to create something really cool.  One window was painted by Indigo and the other by Seth.  I think they are simply amazing.  These windows are hanging up in my breakfast room.  They bring a smile to my face everytime I look at them.

All Points Back To 1-11

I got wind of this today on Facebook.  Give this a try  -  take the year you were born ( last two digits) and the age that you will be this year  and it all points back to 1 -11 or 11.  I tried it out with my birthdate, my spouse's and the three littles and it really does work.  WEIRD!

You'll Always Be My Baby

I just wanted to take a moment to say Happy Birthday to my firstborn Seth.  I fell in love with him from the moment I laid eyes on him.  Although he turned 14 years old today he will always be mommy's baby.  Happy Birthday Son!!!!

A Jenny Outfit

As I mentioned in my profile I am a freespirited artist and a lover of clothing and shoes that project true style.  I think fashion should be fun and that one should not be afraid to take a risk.  When you take risks you find out what works and what doesn't work.  I can truly say that I have taken many a fashion risk.  I am an artist and most would say that I can get away with dressing "different" because I am an artist.  When I put on lets say denim cutoffs, a DIY backless handpainted tee and cowboy boots and ask my hubby "How do I look?'  His response is "It's a Jenny Outfit."  I have been known to wear just about anything that I think shows great style with the exception of the following item that I most likely will not be caught in: which is the mid drift/ belly baring top.  I am considered by some to be "tiny", but  let's be real, three people have resided in my belly and  I really have no desire to show off what I consider to be one of the most unflattering parts of my body especially with its road  map of stretch marks!

A couple of months back I put on what I considered to be one of my "flyest" Jenny Outfits.  My outfit consisted of a vintage 70's printed silk jumpsuit with slits on the legs and back, bold gold jewelry, gold and clear dressy flip flops and topped off by my Tom Ford sunglasses.  When I asked my husband "How do I look?'  His response was that I looked like a giant wasp.  I was not expecting that response.  I knew my outfit was fly, but not fly by way of looking like one of it's insect relatives.  I left the house proudly and with great confidence despite the comment.  When I reached  my destination I received  many compliments  from both men and women loving my assemble.  Not that I need validation from others,  I knew I looked cute before I left home despite the comment.

I wear lots of outfits that some would regard as over the top, artsy, different,  or what have you.  I don't mind standing out in a crowd and I am not trying to garner attention from the clothes that I wear. I am not completely defined by the clothes that I wear.  I just love  fashion and having one's own style.

I have learned over the years that outfits referred to by my husband as "Jenny Outfits" are not necessarily bad things.  He is acutally complimenting me on my originality and in his own way letting me know that he likes it.

So here's  to another year of  "Jenny Outfits" and standing out in crowd .  Here's to not being derailed when you ask the question "How do I look?" and not getting the response that you were hoping for.  Here's to being confident enough to wear "Jenny Outfits" with your head held high.  Cheers.
